What is Building and other Construction Act 1996
“Building or Other Construction Work” means the construction, alteration, repairs, maintenance or demolition, of or, in relation to buildings, streets, roads, railways, tramways, airfields, irrigation, drainage, embankment and navigation works, flood control works (including storm water drainage works), generation, transmission and distribution of power, water works (including channels for distribution of water), oil and gas installations, electric lines, wireless, radio, television, telephone, telegraph and overseas communications, dams, canals, reservoirs, water courses, tunnels, bridges, viaducts, aqueducts, pipelines, towers, cooling tower, transmission towers and such other work as may be specified by Government from time to time.However, it does not include any building or other construction work to which the provisions of the Factories Act, 1948 or the Mines Act, 1952 apply.
Who are Eligible for this Scheme
The Building and Other Construction Workers (Regulation of Employment and Conditions of Service) Act, 1996 applies to every establishment which employs or had employed on any day of the preceding twelve months, ten or more building workers in any building or other construction work.
Process of Registration
Every “building worker” (as defined under the Act), who has completed 18 years of age but has completed 60 years of age and who has been engaged in any building or other construction work for not less than 90 days during the preceding twelve months shall be eligible for registration as a beneficiary under the Board. He shall submit application form to the respective Beneficiary Registering Officer of the nearest Regional Labour Office along with a one time registration fee of Rs.20/- and a tri-monthly contribution of Rs.60/-. He / she in turn will be issued an identity card & pass book by the BRO.
Eligibility:-
Applicant must have an age between 18 to 60 years.
Applicant must have a valid citizenship proof.
